Abstract:
Osteological structures of two cyprinid fishes, G. rufa inhabiting Mehran River, Hormuz basin and G. rossica inhabiting Zahak River, Sistan basin were described and compared. The skeletal elements of G. rufa and G. rossica specimens were stained cleared and photographed. The observed significant differences were in the shape of the supraethmoid, frontal, sphenotic, pterotic, vomer, parasphenoid, orbitosphenoid, pterosphenoid, shape and count of actinosts and absence or presence of postcleithrum in pectoral girdle, shape and count of metapterygium in the pelvic girdle, shape and count of supraneurals and shape and size (length and height) of stay in dorsal fin, length and shape of neural spins in the two first preurals and hypural 6 in caudal skeleton. These differences could be results of evolutionary adaptations to a new habitat conditions and can used in comparative and phylogenetic studies.
